Intro to Ashtanga Yoga-Ashtanga means the 8
limbed path of yoga. This incorporates not only movement of
the body, but movement of the breath & control of the mind.
This is vigorous, continously moving flow class. This is our
most authentic style of Hatha Yoga, the union of body mind &
spirit. We practice the Primary series of the Ashtanga method
as taught by
Sri K. Pattabhi Jois.
Jois or Guruji as he is known, has been teaching
this sequence
for 60 years.
Visit www.ayri.org for more information about
Ashtanga vinyasa
yoga.
Mary the owner of Yoga Oasis has direct
experience of study with this Guru from Mysore, India and brings
these teachings to her teachers and students. This is an athletic
class, designed to heal the body, mind & spirit.
There is a set series that takes a bit of time to learn, so
there is a level of commitment required to really gain the
benifits of this class.
There will be weight on the hands,
so this class requires some
strength
This practice helps to allow one to discover how to create
more inner as well as outer strength. The body opens up quickly
and the mind becomes more empowered
through a continous daily practice. But, of course, something
is better than nothing and we all start somewhere!
Our attitude here at the Oasis is do what you can and be happy.
So start now!
As The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali
states, Stirah Sukha Asanam,
Meaning your yoga posture should be steady and joyful.
At the Oasis we want to help you bring out th joy of being alive
and the magnificance of what your body and mind
can do together
as a team.

What should a first-time student expect?
